Editor-in-Chief: Dr John Grimshaw FLS

John Grimshaw is an acknowledged botanist, gardener and author. He has been Director of The Yorkshire Arboretum since 2012, from which he is seconded for one day a week to work on Trees and Shrubs Online. Previously he managed the gardens at Colesbourne Park, Gloucestershire and was lead author for the International Dendrology Society of New Trees, Recent Introductions to Cultivation (with Ross Bayton), published in 2009 by RBG Kew. He has written widely for numerous horticultural publications and previous books include Snowdrops, A Monograph of Cultivated Galanthus (with Matt Bishop & Aaron Davis, 2002). He is a member of the Royal Horticultural Society’s Woody Plant Committee, Gardens Committee and Nomenclature and Taxonomy Advisory Group.

Assistant Editor: Tom Christian

Tom Christian is a consultant dendrologist with a very wide experience of trees and collections throughout the UK, Ireland, and beyond. Tom studied Horticulture with Plantsmanship at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh, graduating in 2008, and continued to be based there until summer 2017, working closely with the International Conifer Conservation Programme on collaborative projects throughout the UK and participating in expeditions to study and collect plants in the wild throughout the world. Tom remains a Research Associate of the RBGE; he is also a member of the IUCN conifer specialist group and of the Royal Horticultural Society’s Woody Plant Committee. In 2022 Tom was the recipient of the Royal Horticultural Society’s Roy Lancaster Award, awarded to individuals aged 35 or under who have made ‘an exceptional contribution to the practice, science or promotion of horticulture’.
