Callicarpa japonica, raised from ESJE 227 gathered in 2006, in fruit at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh, 27 November 2022. Image Tom Christian.

A genus of about forty species of shrubs or small trees found wild in N. and Central America, E. Asia, Australia, and Malaya. The name is given in reference to the beauty of the fruits, for which the following species are mainly cultivated. Leaves opposite.
