This interesting genus was first described by Prof. Augustine Henry and H. H. Thomas in the Gardeners’ Chronicle for February 4, 1911. As was there pointed out, it is intermediate in its characters between Chamaecyparis and Libocedrus. The cones resemble Chamaecyparis and Cupressus in having table-shaped scales, but it resembles Libocedrus in the unequal wings of the seeds and in foliage. To Libocedrus (Calocedrus) macrolepis especially it is closely alike in foliage. It is a monotypic genus and a native of China.

From the Supplement (Vol.V)
