A small genus of trees and shrubs, natives of S. America, New Zealand, Australia (including Tasmania), and the New Hebrides. The species described here are somewhat tender in our average climate, especially the New Zealand ones, and are only seen at their best near the Atlantic seaboard. They are propagated by cuttings made of half-ripened wood and put in gentle bottom heat.
