A genus of eight species, natives of the New World from western N. America through Mexico to Colombia. It belongs to the subfamily Spiraeoides and within this group is distinguished by the combination of the following characters: leaves simple (not pinnate as in Sorbaria), without stipules; flowers small, borne in panicles; fruits composed of five achenes.
