Hymenosporum is monospecific, comprising only the species H. flavum. It is wide-ranging through Australia, Indonesia and Papua New Guinea, and correspondingly variable in form – from a large tree in rain forest to smaller trees or shrubs in the more temperate parts of its range (Elliot & Jones 1990). Provenance selection is likely to be important if this beautiful tree is to become known to a wider circle of gardeners in our area. Selections from the highest altitudes in the Blue Mountains, New South Wales should be sought.
