Shrub, 2-4m. Leaves coriaceous, 9-11 x 2-3.2cm, lanceolate, apex acuminate, lower surface covered with a dense thick dark fawn to light brown indumentum composed of dendroid hairs with long straight branches. Flowers 10-15, in a dense truss, white flushed pink, with a few flecks, campanulate, lacking nectar pouches, 35-40mm; ovary densely brown-tomentose, style glabrous.

Season February-April.

Distribution China (SE Tibet).

Habitat 3,200-3,650m.

RHS Hardiness H4a-b?.

This species is apparently quite distinct from all the remaining members of the subsection, though it is probably allied to R. luciferum.
