Low shrub; young shoots densely covered with adpressed bristles. Leaves of one kind, deciduous, 0.7-1.5 x 0.4-0.6 cm, ovate to ovate-oblong, apex obtuse, apiculate; upper surface glabrescent; petioles covered with bristles. Pedicels densely pilose. Flowers 3-4 per inflorescence; calyx small; corolla red, funnel-shaped, c.15 mm; stamens 7-10; ovary pubescent, style glabrous. Flowering May. Royal Horticultural Society (1997)
